(Updated October 24, 2025 - new recognition from Forrester added below)
The collaboration between BNP Paribas Bank Polska and Secfense began in 2021 with a shared goal: to strengthen the bank’s cybersecurity posture through multi-factor authentication (MFA) and prepare for the transition to passwordless technologies.
At the time, MFA had become a cornerstone of secure access management, especially during the rise of remote work. Strong authentication was critical to reducing phishing and credential theft risks, ensuring that both office and remote users benefited from the same high level of protection.
Large-scale MFA adoption had long been considered complex, as it typically required modifying existing application code. The Secfense User Access Security Broker (UASB) addressed this challenge, allowing organizations to add MFA to any application, modern or legacy, without code changes. Its scalability and flexibility quickly made it a practical tool for enterprises with large, heterogeneous IT environments.
“We must always be one step ahead of the attackers. We are convinced that the User Access Security Broker will bring security to a new level, both for those working at the office and from home,”
— Krzysztof Słotwiński, CISO, BNP Paribas Bank Polska
“BNP Paribas Bank Polska provided invaluable insight into real-world security challenges. Their feedback helped us further improve the quality and usability of our solution,”
— Tomasz Kowalski, CEO, Secfense
From MFA to Passkeys
Building on this foundation, BNP Paribas Bank Polska and Secfense later expanded their cooperation to include passkey-based, passwordless authentication, marking a significant milestone in the bank’s digital security strategy.
Using the same UASB technology, the bank successfully introduced FIDO-compliant, phishing-resistant login across its internal and client-facing systems, without modifying existing applications or disrupting daily operations.
This implementation positioned BNP Paribas Bank Polska among the first European banks to deploy passkeys at scale, demonstrating that even complex, regulated environments can transition securely toward a passwordless future.
